Langley Park, MD (August 14, 2012) – This Wednesday, CASA will launch a mass application clinic welcoming an expected 1000 DREAMers on the first day that USCIS will be accepting applications.
The Deferred Action program, announced on June 15th of this year by President Obama, provides a two-year temporary visa to talented Immigrant youth at risk of deportation. On August 15th, DHS will start accepting applications for the temporary status. CASA, Maryland’s largest immigrant and Latino community organization, is responding to this historic opportunity by launching a program to ensure that as many undocumented Maryland youth as possible come out of the shadows and become champions in the struggle for immigrant rights. Motored by volunteers and youth leaders, the program plans to provide assistance in the filing of more than 10,000 applications. A key element of the program will center on engaging DREAMers in building a powerful immigrant youth movement in Maryland.
This Wednesday, more than 1000 DREAMers are expected at CASA’s Langley Park office to begin their formal process. The following day, several hundred more are expected to attend a similar clinic in Baltimore City. At each event, a short presentation will be followed by hundreds of students beginning the application process. Applicants will be available for interview.
